Alberta Music ADEMP Workshop #1 Recap

🥳 Pics from the first @alberta_music Advancing Diversity and Equity in Music Production (ADEMP) workshop on Dec 10 at @upinarmsstudios. The day focused on mixing and engineering for women/non-binary individuals.

@thataudioengineergal (Chelsa Roberts) and I were happy to facilitate learning through a tactile, hands on way. While sooooo many technical questions were answered, the most illuminating thing for me personally was being able to put a finger on our collective anxiety and how much we tend to make ourselves smaller and quieter as women/non-binary individuals in a pocket of music where we are still so vastly outnumbered. 😔

Bringing in Dr. Allison Sokil @composeurself was so amazing in helping everyone feel seen and heard and being able to articulate what we have all felt but have never been able to properly express. And that community and support is one of the greatest things we can give each other - something you can never learn from watching YouTube or TikTok videos on what buttons to push or knobs to turn. 💕

Sometimes the best way to learn is by touching, feeling, doing, and HEARING!!! Big thank you to OMS Canada and Ohma World for lending us some incredibly gorgeous (looking and sounding) ribbon and condenser microphones that we were able to shoot out, pass around and open up to see the guts of.

✨The next workshop has been rescheduled to February 10 on women+ production featuring the baddest bitch Terez @terezmusic 👯‍♀️ (last slide) as co-pilot. There will be a lot of vocal production! 🎤.
