WHERE WE CAME FROM

SHE-Q arose as the culmination of Jinting Zhao's multi-pronged advocacy efforts to support women in a field where she finds herself continually underrepresented and underestimated, but also recognizing an enormous opportunity for women, for social good, and for industry.

Finding out there were few existing avenues to support her own growth and being incredibly impatient, she went on a mission to build the final rung of advanced professional development ladder for women producers and engineers in Canada and earn the recognition and support they deserve.

@jintingzhao

Jinting wears a lot of hats.  Here are a few of them:

  • In-house producer/engineer at platinum-certified Up In Arms Studios in Edmonton, Alberta (one of the few women in the province) and freelances around the rest of Canada.

  • Acclaimed songwriter for global pop, R&B, and EDM artists. Featured in TV, films, and video games including Amazon Prime, CityTV, Crave, Rogers Sportsnet, NHL, and Top 40 regular rotation on Canadian radio.

  • Sought after speaker, consultant and policy advisor to businesses, non-profits, and governments on arts, equity, and diversity policies.

  • Expert at navigating Canada’s funding and resources that support music-makers.

  • Member of the Diversity, Equity, and inclusion Committee of the Audio Engineering Society

  • Former board director for Alberta Music industry association.

  • Former Sony Music Taiwan recording artist, and two-time Canadian Idol-ist. Still sings sometimes.

  • Mediocre piano player but shockingly good at trivia.
